Welcome State and Federal Legislators
You've found this site because a constituent of yours has been bullied at work. That person has probably asked you to consider sponsoring a bill to address it. We can help you make that happen. We provide legislation-ready text crafted by our affiliated law professor. Since 2003, several states have introduced various forms of the anti-bullying Healthy Workplace Bill. Currently the state with an active bill is New York with plans underway in more states. Here is a current history of the bill. This website is your one-stop resource to learn about the phenomenon, to review the latest research, to read a law professor's rationale for new legislation, and to see legislative precedents, and to let us know you are considering sponsorship of a bill. Research is conducted and compiled by the nonprofit Workplace Bullying Institute (WBI). In Sept. 2007, WBI released the results of its Zogby survey, the first and largest national poll about the prevalence and nature of workplace bullying in the U.S. Remarkably, 37% of U.S. workers have been personally bullied -- 54 million Americans. An additional 12% of the workforce witnessed it. You can read and download the results from this site. Legislative advocacy is directed nationally by the WBI Legislative Campaign. It is a political action organization that networks grassroots volunteer citizen lobbyists and volunteer State Coordinators with the single purpose of introducing and passing state-by-state legislation to address health-harming abusive work environments (severe workplace bullying). We hope you join the growing ranks of bill sponsors from both parties to address this non-partisan, epidemic-level problem in American workplaces. The WBI-LC national office and its network of local volunteers are here to support your efforts in the anticipated uphill campaign to establish landmark laws. The time to address the final taboo where abuse is tolerated (and cruelly revered by some) is finally here! We've rejected child abuse, domestic violence and workplace physical violence. Let's finish the job and join the ranks of civilized industrialized nations.
