With nearly half of nurses currently looking to leave their professions due to that which is frequently described as “toxic work environments,” the nation is facing a major nursing shortage. In fact, the Bureau of Labor Statistics projects 1.2 million nursing vacancies by 2022.

I am writing a book exploring why and how nurses “eat their young” and how one can transcend the female dominance hierarchy (talking about energy here… we know there are lots of male nurses).

This book is being written from a Palliative Care philosophy and through the integral psychology lens that explores pathways to healing and transformation, which include physical, emotional, psychological, social, and spiritual dimensions of health and well-being.

Unfortunately, prolonged exposure to adverse work environments can have serious consequences on our body, mind, and spirit. There are a number of recognized recognized illnesses that are associated with chronic stress, which include cardiovascular and autoimmune diseases, depression, suicidal ideation, (complex) post traumatic stress disorder, cancer, anxiety, etc. The physical and mental impact on our lives due to bullying related stress can affect our behavior and relationships at home and work. It can also have an impact on our ability to do our job.

I also provide trauma-informed tele-therapy to groups and individuals (especially nurses and hospice providers), as I am being trained by Drs. Namie at the Workplace Bullying Institute as an affiliate and a founding association member.
